Eleonora Evelyn Bruns was born November 12, 1916 in Sundown Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Henry William and Emma Mathilda (Bast) Schiller. The family lived on a farm near Springfield until 1919, when they moved to their farm north of Lamberton. Eleonora was baptized December 24, 1916 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield and confirmed June 29, 1930 at Zion Lutheran in Lamberton. She attended country school and graduated from Lamberton Public School. She completed teacher's training at Lamberton, and taught in rural schools in Redwood, Murray and Brown Counties, and served on the Dist. 29 School Board.
Eleonora was united in marriage to Walter Frederick Bruns at Zion Lutheran Church in Lamberton on April 10, 1939. The couple lived and rented farms near Springfield and Lamberton before they settled north of Lamberton, where they farmed until retiring in 1982. They continued to live on their farm until Walter's death in Oct. of 2002. Eleonora moved into Lamberton in 2003. She was active in her church, where for many years she taught Sunday School and Bible School, was a member of the church choir, served as officers in the ladies organization in church and led Bible Study in her circle. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening and traveling. She wrote weekly letters to her children for over 30 years. Her family, as well as others, were recipients of many afghans, doilies, quilts, garden produce, and jams. Eleonora continued to sew quilt tops, knit and crochet mittens, caps, and baby blankets for her church until her death.
She is survived by her children Larry (Elena) Bruns of Lomita, CA, Eileen (Douglas) Sommer of Zumbrota, Carol (James) Kopel of Tyler; Grandchildren Aaron (Kari) Kopel of Watertown, Laura (Dave) Whalen of Mound, Nathanael (Jamie) Sommer of Wanamingo; great grandsons Gavin and Reed Sommer; Step grandchildren Gina (Frank)Enriquez, Nina (John) Ball Jr., Bettina Embry; a step great grandson and 2 step gr.gr. grandchildren; one brother Alvin (Lillian) Schiller of New Ulm, and sister Alice Kettner of Springfield.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, brothers Walter and Arnold Schiller, sisters Viola Johnson and Evelyn Kronback.
