Nellie Baker, daughter of Newton and Elizabeth (Hodgman) Baker, married John Levi Miller on 29 November 1883 in Charlotte.

Their first child, Mauda, was born 25 February 1886 and died of Cholera Infantum on 24 August 1886 in Charlotte. She was likely buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, but there is no tombstone for her. A metal grave marker was found in her son's "treasures" when he died. The marker has never been used, and the screws indicate it was to have been placed on a wooden marker.

Nellie and John's second child, Charles Franklin Miller, was born on 9 July 1887 in Charlotte. He moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1918.
