The son of Charles Stanley Thompson and Frankie Catherine Hendricks Thompson. Robie served in the US Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 he was in D company, 4th Tank Battalion and served in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples, Foggia and North Apennines Po Valley and Rome-Arno.
