Tigna Estelle Steele Manahan, 97, of Fairfield passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at her residence.

She was born in Streetman on Dec. 16, 1913 to Ruth Clark Steele and William R. "Bob" Steele. Tigna was born and raised in Streetman and graduated from Streetman High School in 1930 where she enjoyed playing basketball, softball, working at the telephone office, was type setter for the Streetman News and while in Houston, she helped her sister Jo run a snack bar. She married Jervis R. Manahan May 24, 1942. They lived in Duncan Field, Waco, Corpus Christi, Houston and then retired to Fairfield where she lived out the remainder of her life. She was an avid bowler and a member of Women's International Bowling Congress, Inc. She won several 200 series and one 500 series awards. She and her husband had the opportunity to travel to India, Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Greece, Athens, Rome, Munich Germany, Austria, and England. Tigna was a member of the Streetman Baptist Church, University of Houston's Women's Club and Fairfield History Club. She was a member of bridge groups for many years in both Houston and Fairfield. Her past times were watching sports and game shows, working puzzles and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings and spouses, TC Steele, Robert Steele and wife Betty, Betty Jo Steele, Rosa Tucker and husband Elbert "Tuck", and sister-in-law Juliette Manahan Davis and husband Uel, nephew Robby Tucker, nephews-in-law Steve Stroube and Mike Scott.

Survivors include sister, Macye Innis and late husband John; nieces and nephews, Elaine Stroube, Corsicana; Rick and Janice Richards, Burleson; Sharion and Billy Bostic, Fort Worth; Jim and Nora Innis, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Pam Scott, Seneca, S.C.; Kathy and Stanley Blinka, Export, Pa.; Tammy and Dan Griffin, Mexia; Kathleen and Jim McKee, Fairfield; Carol Ann and Bobby Biggar, Austin; Jacqueline and Paul Collins, Wortham; and numerous other family members.

Visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Funeral services followed at 4 p.m. in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Bro. Grayson Glass and Bro. Buddy Turner officiating, with special music by Don Thornton. Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Gill Stroube, Clay McKee, Kyle Collins, Harold Massey, Gilbert Ponte Daniels and Warren Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Rick Richards, Aubrey Childs, Johnny B. Massey and members of the Fairfield History Club.

The family would like to thank her caregivers: Oretha Ransom, Oletha Davis, Vee Grant, Kami Grant and First Choice Hospice, Dr. James Orms, Kaye Koonce, Katie Thaler, Katye Story for their love and continued support.
