HATTERAS - Zilphia Stowe Austin, age 81, died Saturday, June 3, in Frisco. Mrs. Austin was born in Hatteras, daughter of the late Ulysses and Annie Gaskill Stowe.

She was the widow of Cecil Guthrie Austin. Mrs. Austin was a homemaker and a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church and the Hatteras Island Craft Guild.

Mrs. Austin is survived by 3 daughters: Phyllis A. Peele and Cecilia Foster of Hatteras and Penny A. Veal of Frisco; one brother, William Monroe Stowe of Hatteras; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Hatteras United Methodist Church on June 5 with the Rev. James Huskins and the Rev. Don Brown officiating. Burial was in the Austin Family Cemetery, Hatteras. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge of arrangements.
