Robert was first recorded on the 1850 Clark Co., Indiana census in the home of his parents, John Edlin, Jr. and the former Rebecca Warman, who married 2 Jul 1833 Clark Co., Indiana.


Robert P. Edlin married the daughter of John D. Stover and Catherine "Kitty" Garland, Sarah Garland Stover 19 Feb 1857. On 1 Mar 1860 he bought 80 acres of land in section 24 of Perry Co., AR.


On 1 Aug 1863, Robert P. Edlin enlisted for a period of three years at Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR as a Pvt. in Co. A., 2nd Arkansas Cavalry, GAR. He mustered out on 20 Aug 1865 in Memphis, TN. His physical description was 5'10" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes and black hair. It is not known if complications from injuries or disease contracted in the war was the cause of his demise a year after he was discharged.
