Howard "Chick" Leon Acosta passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at the age of 94, joining his loving wife of 67 years, Bertha Nunez Acosta. Father of Marvin Howard Acosta, Philip Wayne Acosta, and Sharon Acosta Shad. Preceded in death by his father Benjamin Acosta, Sr., his mother Louise Gonzales Acosta, and siblings Murphy Acosta, Benjamin Acosta, Jr., Ralph Acosta, Josephine Acosta Nunez, and Bessie Acosta Rodriguez. Surviving family members include his sister, Mabel Acosta Nunez, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Howard, a native of St. Bernard Parish, was a veteran of WWII. He enjoyed a long, successful career as a general contractor and was active in charitable organizations. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA, on Monday, May 23, 2011, from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 12:00 PM. Interment follows at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
