Mrs. Benjamin E. Hewett, 77, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bernice H. Jernigan, Woodland Drive, Hampton Heights. Her husband died January 29, 1956.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Waters Funeral Home by Elder Oscar Broom of the Primitive Baptist Church of Monroe, N.C. and Laverne Gandy of Florence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Serving as active bearers will be Weston Hardee, Paul Hardee, Rudolph Todd, Nathaniel Harrelson, Vernon Harrelson and Boyce Todd.

A native of Horry County, Mrs. Hewett was born December 17, 1882. She was the former Miss Mary Grainger and a daughter of the late George W. and Nancy Prince Grainger, pioneer citizens of Horry County. She had been a citizen of Florence for 22 years and was a member of Five Points Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Bernice H. Jernigan, Florence; one son, G.E. Hewett, Florence; six sisters, Mrs. Glenn Todd, Loris, Mrs. Minnie Littleford, Chevy Chase Md., Mrs. Emma Harrelson, Loris, Mrs. Sallie Burroughs, Conway, Mrs. Ola Fowler, Tabor City, N.C. and Mrs. Balsoria Blackburn, Wilmington, N.C., and nine grandchildren.
