WILL H. WEISS CIVIC LEADER DIES AT OHIOWA
William H. Weiss, passed away at his home in Ohiowa, Nebraska, Tuesday, December 6, 1960, at the age of 64 years, 11 months, and 6 days. He had been in poor health recently but had been around as usual so his death was unexpected. He was sitting in a chair watching television when the end came.
Mr. Weiss was born near Fontanelle, Neb., December 29, 1895. He came of sturdy pioneer stock. His parents were Jacob Weiss and Theresa Kummer. They immigrated from German and settled in Dodge County, Nebraska. In the family were three children, Carl H. Brinkman, a half-brother, who passed on several years ago, Fred L. Weiss, a brother , who now reside in Ottawa, Illinois and the deceased.
Will was married to Ellen McFarland, June 9, 1922.
He spent his youth on his father's farm near Fremont, Dodge County, was educated in the public schools and attended the Fremont Norman school, studying under Prof. Newton Gaines. When World War I broke out, he entered the military service of the United States and served until he was honorable discharged at the close of that war.
He was reared in the Lutheran faith and in due course was confirmed and remained a devout Christian all his life.
The family moved to Ohiowa, Neb., many years ago and at that time Will transferred his membership to St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a faithful attendant and supporter of that institution.
He was a prominent in Masonic circles; was a past master of the Ohiowa Masonic lodge, a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and past high priest of the Royal Arch chapter of Geneva. He was also a member of the Council of Royal and Select Masters of Geneva.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen, and brother Fred. He also leaves three nephews, Manley, Paul and Harold Weiss, as well as four sons of his brother-in-law, Paul McFarland, whoes names are William McFarland, Richard McFarland, Harold McFarland, and Donald McFarland.
Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa on Thursday, December 3, with Rev. Karl Konig officiating. Mrs. Rudy Meyer and Mrs. Raymond Dittmer sang "Abide with me" and "Rock of Ages" Mrs. Karl Konig was organist. Pallbearers were Jospeh Bors, Drew Harold, Herman Keral, Roy Meyer, William Pflug and Henry Schwisow.
Interment was in the Ohiowa Cemetery.
