Dau. of James Murray & Amy Peters; marr. Burr Gilbert in 1837, Ephratah, NY. She assisted him in operating the Burr Gilbert Hotel at Garoga which had been in his family for nearly a century at the time of his death, in 1854. The well known hostelry was a favorite stopover for cattlemen drivng their stock west to the NY market. She was a very knowledgeable, self-educated woman, and successfully operated a large dairy farm for many years after her husband's death. She was the sister of Oliver, Amy, Betsey, Mindwell & the Honorable Richard Murray, all of whom predeceased her. She was the devoted mother of Amy E., Zalmon, Ann M., Jane M. & Emma Ida Gilbert; Mrs. Emma I.(Jacob G.) Snell & Miss Jane Gilbert survived her. Source: Censuses & Obit.
