Ruby Geraldine Robinette Carter, 85, of Baileyton, died Thursday at Laughlin HealthCare Center surrounded by family members.

Her family stated, "She went home to be with the Lord."

Mrs. Carter was born April 24, 1924, in Three Sands, Okla., and was a daughter of the late Carl and Minnie Beatrice Robinette.

She married Henry Beryl Carter on Aug. 13, 1946. He died Jan. 2, 2002.

Mrs. Carter graduated in 1941 as valedictorian of her class from Fields High School in Fields, N.M.

She graduated from Eastern New Mexico College in Portales, N.M., with a degree in bookkeeping. Over the years, she worked as a bookkeeper, in the insurance field, for the federal government in Selective Service and Tobacco Market News, and in tax preparation for H & R Block.

Mrs. Carter was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God, Mothers Against Drunk Driving. (MADD), and the American Legion Auxiliary.

"She loved to read her Bible, garden and sew," her family stated.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Henry Carter Jr. and Omar Carter; a grandson: Jeffrey Carter; and two brothers: Joe Robinette and Jack Robinette.
