Lenard McKinley was the son of Calvin McKinley and Cora Ella Sessions. He grew up in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. He became a lather, like many in the family, but in 1938 he went to work for Douglas Aircraft Company, retiring as a drophammer operator in 1953. He married Mavy Alvessa Jones Wade McEwen about 1920. They had no children together.
