ADAMS

Leona Blanche Ragan Adams, daughter of John G. and Minnie Farlee Ragan, was born near Purdy, Lucas County, Iowa, Oct. 9, 1898, and departed this life June 18, 1990, at the Chariton Manor at the age of 91 years, eight months and eight days.

She accepted Christ as her personal savior as a teenage girl and was baptized and became a member of the Belinda Christian Church. Her entire live was spent in Lucas County.

On Oct. 20, 1920, she was united in marriage to James W. Adams. To this union two sons and three daughters were born. They moved to Chariton in 1941. Blanche was employed at Gross Galesburg Company for 19 years, and retired in 1962.

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; a son, Leland; and son-in-law, Marshall Cherryholmes; a brother, John Ragan; two infant brothers; and three sisters, Hazel Ragan, Mildred Ragan and Ruth Canaday; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, James Jr. of Chariton; three daughters, Mildred Chamberlain and Letha Cherryholmes, both of Des Moines, and Ruth Jones of Ankeny; two daughters-in-law, Juanita Adams and Neva Adams; two sons-in-law, Virgil Chamberlain and Richard Jones; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Delmar Ragan of Moline, Ill.; two sisters, Edna Grant of Des Moines and Etha Stone of Chariton; a sister-in-law, Effie Adams of Chariton; and many nieces and nephews.

Blanche was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always willing to help wherever she was needed, and she will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., June 21, 1990, at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis St. Lawrence officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.

Serving as bearers were Dale Herman, Robert Jones, Donald Adams, Bryant Adams, Dan DiMarco, Bill McCarthy, Jerry Cherryholmes and Michael Chamberlain. Honorary bearers were Gary Adams, Justin Adams, Eugene Adams, James W. Adams and Dwight Chamberlain.
