As a boy Hrold Carter attended the Dickens School and then graduated from the Lake Center High School.
On January 29, 1944 he was united in marriage to Clara Hansen at Spencer, Iowa, and to this union were born two sons, David and Thomas. The Carters made their residences first at Dickens and then in the Ruthven Area.
Harold spent his entire lifetime in Agriculture. For nine years he served as President of the Dickens Elevator Board, and was chairman of the SCS for nine years.
He was a faithful member of the Ruthven United Methodist Church--serving as the Chairman of the Finance Commission-- the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and served as a member of the Remodeling Commitee.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Highland Lodge No. 487 AF & AM of Ruthven.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Clara, his two sons, David of Glendale, Arizona and Thomas of Ames, Iowa. One brother, Elmer R. Carter, Berthoud, Colorado, and Mrs. Elsie Oliver, of Glendale, Arizona, also one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held in the Ruthven United Methodist Church on Saturday May 19, with Rev. F.G. Samek, oficiating. Mr. T. A. Christiansen was Organist, with soloist, Jeff Rosacker singing, "In The Garden" and "Good Night, Good Morning".
Internment in North Lawn Cemetery at Spencer. Pallbearers were: Kenneth Salton, Edwin Stephas, W.E. Monk, Donald Wilsdon, Robert Lathrop, and Carl Behrendsen.
