Warren Columbus Evitt

Cullowhee - Warren Columbus Evitt, 82, of Yellow Mountain, passed away Friday, June 13, 2008, after a long illness.
Warren was a native of Jackson County, where he lived most of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was born June 12, 1926, to Mack and Bertha Evitt. Warren was a self employed and since retired carpenter and painter; a member of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and also treasurer for 30 years; U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War; an avid musician; preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Lee Evitt.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Zettie Coggins Evitt; two daughters, Stephanie Matthews, of Franklin, and Karen Henson and husband, Barry, of Greenwood, S.C.; two sons, David and Lindon Evitt, both of Cullowhee; nine grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Yellow Mountain Baptist Church, with the Revs. Keith Ashe and Hardin Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in the Stewart Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the William E. Dillard American Legion Post, 104, of which he was a member.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
