In 1970 when I transcribed this stone for a project I was doing, the following was visible:
In Memory of Capt. Calvin Shaw who died October 22nd, 1805 in the 28th year of his age. He lived generally beloved and died much lamented.
In life's gay morn, when all is youthful bloom,
And hopes are rais'd of a Long life to come;
Disease invades, a fever stops his breath,
Our hope are lost, He falls a pray to death
Now view his once robust and healthful form,
A lifeless clod and food for nauseous worms.
