Henry, the son of Henry M. Johnson and Katherine Johnson of Bremerton WA, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 26, 1968 in Seattle WA. He arrived in Vietnam on February 27, 1969 and was assigned to Company L, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During Operation OKLAHOMA HILLS while on a reconnaissance in force mission in the Ken Valley of Thuong Duc District shots were fired by a hidden enemy who then fled. PFC Johnson who was on point of the patrol was hit and killed by the enemy rifle fire.
