Ernest E. Batten

Ernest Eugene Batten, 76, of Rector passed away Friday at his residence. He was born Nov. 14, 1934, to the late Henry and Beatrice (Huckabay) Batten in Rector.

In addition to his parents, two infant brothers preceded him in death; brother, J W Batten; and three sisters, Hazel Wilson, Wanda Jones and Mary Parker.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Nelson) Batten; five sons and their spouses, Ernie and Cindy Batten of Arizona, Tim and Denese Batten of Kentucky, Danny and Gina Batten of Arizona, Jody and Nicole Batten of California and Stephen Batten of Utah; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Batten of Lafe; a sister, Shirley Abney of Michigan; and a very special companion for nine years, his dog, Peaches.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Ernie Rinks and Tom Payne officiating. Interment will be at the Ramer's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. For online condolences, visit www.irbyfuneralhome.com.
