Musician. He was a singer and jug blower, noted as one of the original pioneers in enhancing the popularity of jug band music. During the 1920s to 1930s, he led the Ballard Chefs' weekly performances on Louisville Kentucky's WHAS radio show. In addition to his Original Louisville Jug Band, he performed in New York, Chicago, with other jug groups and recorded more than 40 tunes to include his hits "She's in the Graveyard Now", "Jug Jubilee" and "In the Jailhouse Now".
