Spring Vale, Randolph County, Georgia
FRANCIS M. GARNER, a thriving merchant of Spring Vale, Ga., was born in Henry County, that State, December 15, 1846. His father, John Garner, was born in Gwinnett County, Ga., July 6, 1818, but removed to Henry County at an early date and a few year later moved to Taylor County, then to Escambia County, Florida, and in 1872 to Burnett County, Texas, where he still resides and follows farming. He served in the Indian war of 1836 and also in the Confederate army as first lieutenant of a cavalry company from Florida. He served till 1863, but owing to his advanced age he resigned and returned home. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Baptist Church. His wife, Elizabeth (Rosser) Garner, was born in Henry County, Ga. She bore her husband eight children, viz.: William J., Caroline M., Elizabeth, Francis M., Martha A. J., Joseph F., Fredonia H. and Nellie M. Francis M. Garner, the fourth child, was raised in Florida and received a common school education. Soon after the war he went to Randolph County, Ga., and settled at Spring Vale, where he has resided ever since, and carries on farming, milling and the mercantile business. He started in life a poor boy and every dollar he has he has made by hard work. He now has a very nice piece of property and is in good financial circumstances. January 10, 1871, he married Miss Amanda K. Edwards, daughter of Jefferson and Theresa (Stevens) Edwards, of Randolph County, Ga.
