Harry Emmett McMillan - BAXLEY - Mr. McMillan, age 85, lovingly known as "Mac" by all who knew him, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in The Tattnall Nursing Center in Reidsville, GA after an extended illness.
Mac was an avid fisherman and loved living at Eason's Bluff on the Altamaha River after retiring from Southern Bell Telephone Company with 37 years of dedicated service, retiring as Local Manager. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps, a Veteran of world War II having served at Iwo-Jima, the occupation of Japan and the Volcano Islands.
He was a native of Valdosta, GA and had resided in Baxley for 47 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Carl and Ora Lee Williams McMillan; two brothers, Carlyle and Franklin McMillan and two sisters, Lila Chauncey and Mary Sue McMillan and daughter-in-law, Barbara McMillan.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris Moore McMillan, one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Steve Collins of West Palm Beach, FL, two sons and daughter-in-law, Jack and Marianne McMillan of Vidalia, and Steve McMillan of West Palm Beach, FL, five grandchildren; Jennifer and Matt Coleman, Jason and Renee McMillan, Kristofer Griffin, Melissa Donahue and Summer McMillan, nine greatgrandchildren: Bryce Branch, Dylan Coleman, Baylee Coleman, Mattelyn Coleman, Ryan Yielding, Haley Griffin, Hunter Griffin, Gillian Anne McMillan, and Ally Donahue.
Funeral services will be held at Swain Funeral Home, Baxley, GA on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. Delmus Hale and Jason McMlllan will deliver eulogies. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00-1:45 PM.
Pallbearers are: Jason McMillan, Kristofer Griffin, Matt Coleman, Bryce Branch, Niles Reddick, Jared Reddick, Wayne Dawklns, and Harold Reddick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Georgia Sheriffs Boy's Ranch P.O. Box 100 Hahira GA 31632 or to Southern Care Hospice 2311 East 1st Street Suite B, Vidalia, GA 30474. The family will assemble at 62 Lakeside Drive Baxley.
