Ezra Perin Savage
[Add A Photo]
Ezra was born in Collinsville Indiana, son of Benjamin Warren Savage and
Hanna Perin. He moved with his family from Indiana to Lyons, Iowa in 1842.
While attending Davenport high school, Erza worked at farm chores and as a
woodcutter. He later attended Iowa College at Davenport but left before
completing his studies. Mr. Savage entered the United States Army in 1861
and was shortly discharged for a disability, but when the Civil War started
he went south with his company as a scout. At the end of the war he entered
the seed grain and implement business in Lyons, but a few years later turned
to cattle raising in Crawford Co Iowa. Mt. Savage was admitted to the Iowa
bar in 1875 and a few years later he settled in Custer Co, Nebraska. He was
elected to the Nebraska House of Representatives in 1883. At the same time
he was superintendent of the university of Nebraska's agricultural
experiment farm in Lincoln. At the end of the term, Mr. Savage entered the
stock commission business in Omaha. He was elected mayor of South Omaha in
1887 and appointed to the City Council in 1888. Savage returned to Custer
county in the 1890's to farm and raise livestock. In 1900 Mr. Savage was
elected Lieutenant Governor on the Republican ticket. Following the
resignation of Governor Dietrich in 1901, Savage became the Governor until
the end of the term in 1903. Mr. Savage then moved to Tacoma Washington
where he was successful in that business. He died in that city.
