Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in United States Army during the War with Spain as a 1st Lieutenant in 17th United States Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at El Caney, Cuba, on July 1, 1898. His citation reads " "Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines and while under heavy fire of the enemy." His Medal was awarded to him on June 21, 1899. He remained in the Army after the conflict,a nd rose to the rank of Colonel.
