SPEARMAN - Ethel Ora Windsor PITTMAN, 96, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Hansford Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

Mrs. PITTMAN was born November 3, 1905, at the family farm north of Turpin, Oklahoma. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1923. She received her teaching degree from Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Oklahoma, in 1925.

She taught school in Turpin and Hardesty, Oklahoma, and nearby Union School, where she met her future husband, Erlis PITTMAN. After a seven-year courtship they married on May 21, 1933, and moved to his farm in Hansford County.

She, her husband and his brother, Wendell, were partners in the farming business until Wendell left on the first bus of World War II draftees from Hansford County. She worked side-by-side with her husband in their farming and ranching business.

They lived in the same house nine miles northwest of Morse for 54 years until they moved to Spearman in 1994. Electricity came in 1950 and telephones in 1960.

Her husband claims that he never saw a horse she could not ride or a weed she couldn't pull. She was active in Cub Scouts as a den mother, she taught Sunday school, was active in 4-H Club and was a life member of Parent Teacher Association.

She taught each of her seven grandchildren to read.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Margaret WINDSOR; a brother, Lee; a sister, Edna; and a grandson, Kip.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Frank PITTMAN and wife, Lucy, of Morse and Bill PITTMAN and wife, Ginger, of Spearman; her friend and caregiver, Marilyn ANDERSON of Spearman; a brother, Chet WINDSOR of Liberal, Kansas; a sister, Minnie HIATT of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford County Library, 122 Main St., Spearman, TX 79070; or a favorite charity.

The family will be at 1106 Linn Drive in Spearman.

The body will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and until an hour before service time Friday at the funeral home.
