Dyches, son of Josiah and Lucinda Dykes Dyches, received a Mexican Land Grant #9, located in Orange Co, TX [GLO File #32, Jefferson Co, 1st Class Certificate #108 for 1937.51 acres & another in Liberty County for another 1/4 league.] By 1850 they had moved to Williamson Co, TX & in 1860 they were located in the Bell Co, TX census.
William married abt 1828 Washington Parish, LA to Jane ? They were the parents of following known children:
Elias Preston Dyches; Jerusha Jane Dyches Bass; Lavica Ann Dyches Bingham; Lucinda Ella Dyches Herndon; and Mary Elizabeth Dyches Millinnix [Mullinix] Little.
"Austin State Gazette," 7 July 1860. "Thomas P. Thompson, the murderer of old man William C. Dyches of Bell County in 1854, was arrested in Louisiana and is now in Jail at Belton."
Williamson County, 27 April 1861. "Thomas P. Thompson charged with the murder of Mr. Dyches, escaped last week from jail."
Bell County. "Mr. Thompson of Donahue Creek, shot Mr. Dykes of Indian Creek in the hip and the ball passed through the abdomen. He is not expected to live. Affray began over some hogs of Mr. Thompson's getting into the field of Mr. Dykes."
Thompson was charged with second degree murder & convicted 19 Feb 1892. His sentence was 7 yrs in state pen.
It took 38 years to bring this man to justice & then he received 7 years for taking another's life. Just like today!
