Singer. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was best known for being the founding member of the popular soul vocal group "The Blue Notes". He started his singing career at high school functions, on street corners and in local nightclubs. The Blue Notes were formed 1954 and were signed with Philadelphia International Records in 1971. Melvin was featured on a string of the groups Platinum and Gold hits, to include "Bad Luck", "Where Are My Friends", "Wake up Everybody", "The Love I Lost" and "If You Don't Know Me By Now". He received many awards for his musical accomplishments and service to the arts, such as citations from the House of Representatives, Chamber of Commerce of Detroit, Michigan and the City of Louisville, Kentucky, proclaimed Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes Day on January 28th, 1988. He died from complications of stroke at age 57.
