Walter was a son of Isaac Franklin Nuzum and Lydia Ann McCullough.

A student, he was enumerated with his parents in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in the 1900 US Census.

He was enumerated with them at Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in the 1905 Wisconsin State Census.

He was enumerated with his uncle, Nulton Nuzum, at Spokane, Washington, in the 1910 US Census.

Walter, an M.D., earned his Obstetrics degree in 1908 from Northwestern University. According to the Directory of Deceased American Physicians, 1804-1929, he practiced Obstetrics at Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1909-1910), Spokane, Washington (1910-1911), Baraboo (1912-1923) and at Madison, Wisconsin (1924).

Walter married Martha H. KILLIAN on June 23, 1910 in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

They were enumerated at Baraboo in the 1920 US Census.

"The body of Dr. Walter F. Nuzum of Madison was brought to the home of his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. I. F. Nuzum, of this city on Monday morning following his death at the Madison General hospital. Dr. Nuzum had been in a critical condition for a week or more. He was aged 42 years. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Martha Killian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Killian, Baraboo, and his three daughters, Margaret, Martha, and Helen. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at the home of the deceased's parents, the Rev. and Mrs. I. F. Nuzum. Published in The Wisconsin State Journal, Nov. 5, 1924, page 2. The funeral of Dr. Walter F. Nuzum, who passed away in Madison on Monday, was held at the home of the parents of the deceased, the Rev. and Mrs. I. F. Nuzum, 1121 Oak street, on Wednesday afternoon. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Walters, Madison. Two beautiful hymns were sung by Dr. T. J. Snodgrass, Janesville, and Attorney Philip Snodgrass of Baraboo. Pallbearers were cousins of the deceased, Paul W. Grubb, Janesville; Kenneth P. Grubb, Milwaukee; Philip Snodgrass, Baraboo; Thomas J. Snodgrass, Janesville, Ralph E. Nuzum and Kenneth P. Nuzum, Viroqua. Burial was made in Walnut Hill cemetery. Among those from out of town in attendance of the services were Dr. and Mrs. T. W. Gravesite Details

Walter was buried on the opposite side of the NUZUM marker from his parents and he wife was buried next to him. Their markers are all located directly south of the large mausoleum that marks the grave of Henry Ringler, of Ringler Brothers Circus fam
