Mr. Albert Wayne Armstrong Sr., 84, of Grottoes, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Albert Wayne was born on Oct. 11, 1924, and was a son of the late Edwin Wayne and Gertrude (Hook) Armstrong .
He retired from Valley Proteins Inc. in Linville, Va., where he was maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Harrisonburg Elks Club.
He was united in marriage on March 5, 1944, to Mildred Lorene (Landis) Armstrong, who preceded him in death.
Albert Wayne is survived by a daughter, Beverly A. Gravatt of Midlothian; two sons, Albert Wayne Armstrong Jr. and wife, Libbie, of Charleston, S.C., Charles Armstrong and wife, Donna, of Woodstock; special companion and friend, Loraine Wichael of Grottoes; four sisters, Jane Miller and husband, Thomas, of Bridgewater, Margaret Spitler of Harrisonburg, Betty Jo Lee of Richmond and Marietta Jordan of Bridgewater. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Scott Armstrong and wife, Jackie, Amanda Nitz, William Flippo III, Angela Aslanska, Donavan Armstrong , Olivia Armstrong , Mandy Fowler, Suzanna Spears and husband, Brian, Joey Testa; three great-grandchildren, Anne Cabell Armstrong , Lauren Armstrong and Elizabeth Armstrong .
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater with the Rev. Larry Thompson and Penny Driediger officiating. His body has been cremated and will be buried in the Mount Crawford Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater on Tuesday from 7-8 p.m.
