Mr. Walter C. Gatlin, 94, of Madisonville, KY died at 9:40 P.M., Sunday, September 28, 2008.

He was born April 3, 1914, in Hopkins County, KY to the late Garland Edgar Gatlin and Vera Hart Gatlin. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rena Patterson Gatlin in 1982; second wife, Grace Metheny Gatlin in 2002; two brothers, E.G. (Bud) Gatlin of Texas and David Gatlin of Tennessee.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. He also was a member of many fraternal organizations, Shriners, Masons and Odd Fellows.

He is survived by his son, Ron (Edi) Gatlin of Evansville, IN; one daughter, Becky (Wayne) Lett of Hampton, VA; one brother, John (Dortha) Gatlin of Madisonville; three grandchildren, Michelle Johnston and Mike Gatlin of Evansville, Lee Gatlin of O'Fallon, MO; three great grandchildren, Brandon Johnston, Brittany Johnston and Cassidy Gatlin; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, KY.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 2:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Masonic rites will be held on Wednesday evening at 6:30 P.M.
