Mary Ann Lawrence was horn at
'West Branch, Oneida county, N.-Y.
January 19, 1837, and died at Elgin
Sunday morning at one o'clock, February
17, 1901, hence was seventy-four
years and twenty-nine days of age.
She spent her childhood at or near
West Branch and was married to Samuel
Adams, December 81, 1846. They
lived New York state until the
autumn of 1846, at which time they
moved to Plainview, Minn., where
they made their home until the summer
of 1871 or '72, at which time they
emigrated to Martin county, Minnesota,
where they began a career as early
pioneers. It was their misfortune to
be overtaken there by the great grasshopper
scourge memorable the history
of that section in the seventies,
which caused them innumerable and
untold sufferings. Some sixteen or
seventeen years ago they moved to the
city of Minneapolis, where they lived
until about six years ago, at which
time they moved to their present
home in Elgin.
The issue of their marriage is nine children,
all of whom reached maturity,
and two of them, one daughter
and one son, died a number of years
ago. The remaining children, two
daughters and one son live in Minneapolis,
one son in Washington, one
son in Martin county, Minnesota, and
two sons in Elgin.
The funeral services were held at
the residence Tuesday at 10:30 a., m.
