US Congressman. Born in Joplin, Missouri, he attended teachers college at Emporia, Kansas, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1926 and commenced to practice law in Eufaula, Oklahoma. During World War I, he served in the 19th Infantry, 18th Division, United States Army, (1917-19). After the war, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving (1935-43). Choosing not to run for reelection, he become vice president of Transcontinental & Western Air, Incorporated. He died at age 49 in an airplane crash at Asmara, Maekel, Eritrea.
