Willie H. Gammon, 82, of Madisonville, Ky died at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at his home.

Born July 29, 1921 in Hopkins Co., KY he was the son of the late Clarence Breck Gammon and Belle Clayton Gammon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Lee Gammon on March 26, 1988; three sisters, Gwendolyn Nance, Bettye Reed and Candice Gammon and three brothers, Johnny Gammon, Arlin Gammon and Harris Gammon.

Mr. Gammon retired in 1978 as a coal miner for the Island Creek Coal Co. He was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the U.M.W.A. District 9653. He was also a lifetime member of the Democratic Party and was in the Democratic Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Williams Gammon of Madisonville; three stepdaughters, Diane Cunningham, Shirley Duvall and Lisa Whitfield all of Madisonville; one stepson, Darrell Bruce of Madisonville; five grand- children, four great grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and five step great-grandchildren, two nieces and six nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 4, 2003 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class.

Friends may call on Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the service at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Green River Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
