Martha H. (Tilley) Pruitt. She
married Arthur Anderson Lay 17 Jan.
1904. They were the parents of two
known children: Harry C. b. 1904
and Ora L. b. 1906.
Arthur was the son of Geo. Willis
and Mary Carlotta (Horton) Lay.
Arthur died in 1926 and is buried
in the Old Marshall Cemetery in
Marshall, Arkansas. It is said
that Martha possibly married again
and that her husband's surname is
Davis. No records have been found.
Note:From records found, from time
to time, the surname was spelled
"Pruitt", "Prewett" and "Prewitt".
In the 1900 census it was spelled
"Prewit"; in 1910 it was "Pruitt"
and in the 1930 census it was
spelled "Pruit". Also, in the
U. S. and International Marriage
Records dated 1560-1900, it was
spelled "Pruitt". Believe "Pruitt"
was the original spelling when the
information was given to the census
taker.
James Ransom was listed as being born
in Ala. in 1858 and Martha Hannnah
listed as born in Ark. in 1861.
