Bud grew up near Washington in Franklin County, Missouri. He attended Central Methodist College in Fayete and the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, where he graduated in 1942. He served in the army, after which he was hired to work on the Manhattan Project.
He spent most of his life working for Allis-Chalmers.
Bud enjoyed the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, especially with family members. He was well-known for his pig roasts and his shish kabob, as well as his wine making.
