Leonard D. Bilko, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Monday (4-4-11) after an extended illness in Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, PA where he was a resident for the past eight years. He was 79.

Mr. Bilko was born January 23, 1932 in Chestnut Ridge, PA a son of the late Stephen and Rose Schultes Bilko.

He was a 1950 graduate of Red Stone (PA) High School and attended Waynesburg (PA) College.

Leonard served with the US Army during the Korean War and moved to the Shenango Valley in 1964.

He was employed for fifteen years by the former CIT Financial in Sharon and later retired from the testing department of Wheatland Tube Co. where he had been employed for twenty years. Following his retirement, Leonard worked in the paint department at Wal Mart in Hermitage and was Santa Clause at the store during the holiday season.

He was a longtime active member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and a former member and manager of its softball team. Leonard enjoyed golfing and woodworking and was a staunch supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and the Pitt Panthers.

His wife, the former Ellen R. Fedronich, whom he married November 20, 1954, passed away December 8, 2003.

Surviving are: two daughters, Karla Ann Porter and her husband Daniel, Farrell; and Suzanne Davis and her husband Eric, Galena, Ohio; two sons, Lawrence S. Bilko and his wife Joan, Hermitage; and Stephen D. Bilko and his wife Billie, Canonsburg, PA; eight grandchildren, Daniel and Lisa Porter; Sarah Songer and Katie Bilko; Erik and Megan Bilko; and Ethan and Madelyn Davis; a great grandson, Amaree Gillespie; and two sisters, Anna Marie Urbani, Chestnut Ridge; and Katherine "Katie" Rabatin, West Lake, Ohio.

Besides his parents and wife, Leonard was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday (4-8-11) IN J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon; and one hour before the Mass Saturday in the church.

Mass of Christian burial will be noon Saturday (4-9-11) in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffrey Noble, pastor, as celebrant. Military honors will be rendered for Mr. Bilko immediately following the Mass.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Sharpsville.
