She spent her formative years on the family farm and attended school in Douglas, Texas and finished high school and attended Langston University in Oklahoma City, Ok with a focus in science.
Celester married Edward Lee and to this union were born three daughters, Yovone, Linda, and Andrea. After moving to San Diego, CA she worked as a Nursing Assistant at Mercy Hospital and resumed her education at San Diego State University and in 1975 obtained her Bachelors Degree in Arts History with an Emphasis in Education and her Certified Teaching Credential.
Celester taught for over twenty years with the San Diego Unified School District as an Elementary School Teacher. She is known as an Eternal Educator because of her llove, compassion and quest for knowledge for children.
Celester joined Bayview Baptist Church in 1966 and has remainded a faithful disciple and servant. She served as faithful children's department Sunday Teacher and member of the Chancel Choir. Celester passions were playing baskeball, running track,gymnastics, walking, singing, art and genealogy and sharing the Gospel in her community and throughout the nation.
Celester leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Yovone, Perez, Linda, and Andrea Boone; grnadchildren Yasmin (Loren Simpson), Montel Perez, Devon Boone, Aria Boone, Angel Lee; great grandson , Antonio Perez- Simpson. Her three brothers, Clemon, Ruford, and Mann Whitaker, also three sisters, Linder Tinsley, Johnnie Ward and Inella Tinsley .
