Sister Marlena Hurley, CSJ, a beloved member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston for 78 years, died Thursday, March 10, 2011.
Daughter of the late Denis Patrick and Delia (Mahoney) Hurley. Sister of the late Catherine Geagan, Louise Hutt, Gertrude Finlayson, Mabel Power, and Margaret Murphy. Survived by 4 generations of nieces and nephews.
Formerly missioned as a teacher at Cathedral School, Boston; St. William, Dorchester; St. Andrew, Forest Hills; St. Benedict, Somerville, St. Ann, Dorchester; Holy Family, Rockland, and as Principal at Sacred Heart, Weymouth. Sister Marlena ministered as a secretary at St. Theresa Elementary School in West Roxbury for nearly 20 years.
Visiting hours were held recently at Holy Spirit Chapel, Bethany Health Care Center, 97 Bethany Road, Framingham. Vigil Service was held, followed by the Funeral Mass. Prayers of Final Commendation at Bethany. Burial followed at New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan, MA.
