She was Creek Native American. She graduated in 1921 from the Eufaula Boarding School, a Government run boarding school for Indian girls. She was first married the "Indian Way" in May 1923 to Samuel Wayne Brown, Jr. son of Chief Samuel William Brown, Jr. and Mattie May Payne-Brown. She married Martin Joseph McAlpine (1 Nov 1896 Holyoke, Massachusetts-22 May 1931 Brooklyn, Kings, New York) on 29 June 1923 who was the son of Patrick James McAlpine, Sr. and Annie Theresa Doran-McAlpine. He's buried in Calvary Cemetery in Holyoke. Mary died of toxemia poisoning due to the birth of my mother. My mother's blood (Rh neg AB) poisoned her mother's blood. Mary died a month after my mother was born. Mom was being raised the Indian Way by the Brown family when at the age of 6 months old, Annie McAlpine went to Oklahoma by train and took my mother away from her paternal grandparents where she was brought to Holyoke, Massachusetts and raised as white. My mother's paternal aunt, Dorothy Brown wrote to mom in the 1940's and said how the whole Tribe howled when mom was taken away from them. Mary is buried in South Heights Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Mom's father is buried in Cenzio Hill Cemetery in Mathis, San Patricio, Texas and her step-father, Martin Joseph McAlpine is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Holyoke, Ma.
