Frank E. Knapp Battle Creek Frank E. Knapp, age 85, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Laurels of Bedford. Frank was born on July 27, 1925, in South Haven, MI, the son of Frank and Grace (Smith) Knapp. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Bangor High School. Frank was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WWII as a tank driver. In 1945 he married his first wife Onamae Krogel which ended in divorce, and then he married the former Evelyn Sweet in 1963. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2008. He was employed in the lab at the Kellogg Company for 15 years, Flashes Publishing for 5 years and then with animal control for Allegan County for 10 years. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, swapping boats, shooting pool, playing cards and telling stories. Surviving are a daughter, Linda L. (Max) Gay of Delton; daughter-in-law, Mary (Dave) Smeltzer of Battle Creek; step-daughters, Shirley (Glenn) Brail of Marshall, Barb (John) Townsend of Bellevue and Sandy Kelly of Battle Creek; 7 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank L. Knapp; a daughter, Lorri Davis; and 2 grandchildren, Bobby Brail and Suzanne Gay. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at the funeral home with The Rev. Cary Grant officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a Charity of Choice.
