Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Smith, 97, of Whitman and Abington died peacefully at Signature Health Care on Friday, March 18 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston on Oct. 29, 1913, Mary was the beloved wife of the late Samuel A. Smith, Jr. Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Susan Mary (Waters) Brown and Charles S. Brown was pre-deceased by her parents and nine siblings. She was the devoted mother of Ruth E. Skinner and her late husband, Joseph of Whitman, and Shirley A. Greenough and her husband, Roger of Abington. Marys greatest source of pride and joy was her family. She was the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and their spouses, twenty-three great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. During her years of employment at American Mutual Insurance, Sigma Instruments, and the retirement years that followed, Mary was known for her kindness, style, and grace. Her loving nature and generous ways served as an inspiration to all who knew her. Mary Elizabeth Smith, an angel on earth, now joins her husband Sam, great-grandson, Daniel A. Helms Lemieux, other loving family members, and friends who were awaiting her arrival. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 22 from 4-8 p.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday March 23. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Family and friends are invited.
