Mr. Johnathan Edward Herrod, age 82, a resident of Sandhill died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Magnolia Manor in Taylorsville. Visitation was held 1pm-9pm Saturday, July 24 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton and resumed 9am-3pm Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services were held 3pm Sunday, July 25, 2010 from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in the Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30pm on Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Bro. Brian Middleton officiated the services. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Herrod was born in Rankin County. He was known as, "Big John Herrod," in the oil field where he traveled the world to every country except Australia and every state except Hawaii. He proudly served his country in the Korean War and WW II. He received the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Occupational Medal from Japan and the United Nations Service Medal. He flew the first jet into Jackson MS from Britain during the Korean War. Johnathan was the owner of Fin and Feathers Café at Eagle Lake, which also had boat rentals and a bait shop. He loved to play bingo, dominoes and loved ballroom dancing. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Virgie Herrod; 3 brothers, Clinton Herrod, John Willie Herrod and Tommy Herrod; sister, Polly Ann Comfort and wife, Rvatus Long, and a son Paul Edward Herrod, SR.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Johnnie Faye Spears of Raleigh, Bettie Jean Sullivan (Olan) of Polkville, Patricia Ann Ainsworth (Charles) of MaGee and Katherine Rujean Stolt (Dean) of D'Iberville; special nephew, Richard Herrod, special caregiver, Martha Easterling (also known as "Red"); 2nd wife and mother of Katie, Peggy Pemberton; 17 grandchildren, Madison & Cooper Stolt, Judy McCrary, Billy & Tracy Ainsworth, Lillie Hughes, Scotty Paul & Wesley Olan Sullivan, Kristie Lee Medders, Paul Edward & Nathan Russel Herrod, John C. Hamilton Jr., Catherine Rene Tullos, Lekisha Spears Slade, Tina Page, Tim & Kim Spears, 23 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren and a host of friends.
