Kernebeck, Catharina
d 5 Sep 1870
bur 8 Sep 1870 44 yrs
Catharina Homolle 'may be' the niece of Margaretha Homolle Kernebeck Memorial# 79532914, this is still being researched by our family. The Homolle and Kernebeck families lived in Epe, Westphalia, Germany, although no birth record has to date been found for Catharina 'HOMOLLE'. Catharina was the godmother at the baptism of my great-grandfather, Johann Heinrich Kernebeck, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois.
Catharina Homolle emigrated from Germany and arrived at Port of New Orleans on 19 May 1851 aboard the ship Louisiana. Also aboard the same ship was Gerhard Kernebeck. Catharina and Gerhard Kernebeck, son of Johann Gerhard DETERS-KERNEBECK and Anna Margaretha HELLING, were married on 10 Jun 1851 at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St Louis, Missouri. After their marriage they traveled north and settled in Section 29 of what would become McHenry Township, at Pistaqua, Lake County, Illinois (Today this area is known as Pistakee Lake, and is now a part of McHenry County). Catharina and Gerhard were among the earliest members of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, where all of their nine children were baptised. After Catharina died, Gerhard re-located, with their surviving children, to Carroll County, Iowa ~
Note: Following the church fire, many of the grave sites that were in close proximity to the church, had been covered over when the new church was built, location of the grave sites for Catharina and her three daughters is "unknown", as recorded in the records of St John the Baptist Catholic Church ~
