Earl C. Cortner, 72, of Smithton, Ill., born July 29, 1938, in Prairie du Long Township, Ill., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Calvin Johnson Care Center, Belleville,ll.

Mr. Cortner was a retired farmer. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hecker, Ill.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence I. and Elsie S., nee Etling, Cortner; four brothers, Floyd F. Cortner, Herbert G. Cortner, Norman A. Cortner, and Armin H. Cortner; and his twin sister, Mildred E. Agne.

His sister, Virginia E. Parker, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, one day after Earl's passing.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Virginia Cortner of Prairie du Long Township, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Raymond Agne of Swansea, Ill.; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, Ill., with the Rev. Ivan Horn officiating. Burial will be at Hecker City Cemetery, Hecker, Ill.
