She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Charlie and Thelma Tyree Brewer.
Mrs. Swanner was a homemaker and had worked at Smith Nursing Home for several years. She was a member of the Guiding Light Bible Church in Johnson City.
Mrs. Swanner loved and enjoyed her family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry L. Abel, in 1991; and her second husband, French H. Swanner, in 1998; three brothers, John Roger Brewer, George Kenneth Brewer and Vernon Maples; a granddaughter, Misty Dawn Brown; and a special friend, David White.
Survivors include three sons, Mike Abel and his wife, Susie, Wayne Abel and his wife, Mary and Timothy Abel and his wife, Robin all of Johnson City; three daughters, Phyllis Abel Lilly, Elizabethton, Christina Abel and Judy K. Abel, both of Johnson City; a brother, Ernest Brewer, Johnson City; a sister, Sue Moore, Jonesborough; a son-in-law, Doug Lilly, Piney Flats; nine grandchildren, Michael W. Abel, Douglas Abel, Amber Abel, Joshua Lilly, Jessica Abel, Chad Abel, Tina Hale, Amy Goodman and Brian Abel; a step-granddaughter, Sherry Arnold; ten great-grandchildren; special friends, Bill Wright, Gene Ward, Dorothy Hurt and Francis Brandon; also several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Swanner will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2011, in the Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with her son, Pastor Mike Abel, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5:00 PM until service time.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2011, in the Monte Vista Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery for this service.
