FITZHUGH, Charles David, (Dave), 77, of Roanoke, died Saturday, November 10, 2001, at a local hospital. Dave was born in McComas, W.Va., on January 4, 1924. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia O. Fitzhugh, his parents, Dr. William DeHart Fitzhugh and Bess Wagner Fitzhugh, his brother, William DeHart Fitzhugh, III, sisters, Mary Bess Oliff, Eleanor Morris, and Roberta (Buddy) Burns. He is survived by his sisters, Celeste (Tess) F. Klose and her husband, Herb, of Raleigh, N.C., and Jeanne F. Atkinson of Kingsport, Tenn.; three daughters, Louise F. Worley and her husband, Jerry, of Fairfax, Va., Patricia F. Mullins and husband, Jim, of Charlottesville, Va., and Gayle F. Hull and husband, Scott, of Mooresville, N.C.; a son, David DeHart Fitzhugh and wife, Barbara, of Roanoke, Va.; two stepchildren, Carmel and husband, Dean Johnson, of Salem, Jeffrey Fuller and wife, Lisa, of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Worley, Erin Dennis and husband, James, Katie Mullins, Taylor Fitzhugh, Ryan and Lauren Hull; four step grandchildren, Jamie and Lindsay Johnson, Jeff and Alana Fuller; numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was a charter member of Williamson Road Church of the Brethren and a current member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Campaign in WWII. He was an agent for State Farm Insurance for forty years in the Roanoke area. Dave was a past district governor of the Lions Club of Virginia and has recently served as a volunteer with the Lions Eye Bank in Roanoke. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Gary and Posey Oyler and their families, Dot and Doug Law, Emanuel Sowder, the staff at Park Oak Grove, his church family and Pastor Ed Woodard, the staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. David Cummings and many other friends who gave Dave assistance and friendship when he needed it. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ed Woodard officiating. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lions Eye Bank, 501 Elm Ave. S.W. Roanoke or the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, 2138 McVitty Rd., S.W. Roanoke. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's South Chapel.
