Age 58. Physician of Radiology and Director of Women's Imaging at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, Massachusetts, died after a long struggle with Cancer on Saturday, February 19 at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida.
Dr. Crivello was born April 28, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Ignazio Crivello and Mary San Filippo. She attended Radcliffe College, Harvard University on full scholarship and graduated Cum Laude in 1973 with a degree in History of Science. Going on to graduate from Yale School of Medicine in 1977, she became board certified in Internal Medicine and Radiology. After completing residencies at Boston City Hospital and at Beth Israel Hospital (where she was Chief Resident in Radiology), she went on to a clinical fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, all in Boston.
In her 25 years of service in the Department of Radiology at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts Dr. Crivello practiced Neuroradiology and Diagnostic Radiology, and was the first Radiologist to serve in Mount Auburn's Hoffman Breast Center. She also taught as a Clinical Instructor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School and advised female undergraduates at Harvard interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
It was her experience as a Breast Cancer patient and survivor in 1992, however, that most shaped Dr. Crivello's subsequent perspective both personally and professionally. She turned her focus to mammography, going on to become Director of Women's Imaging and the Hoffman Breast Center at Mt. Auburn Hospital. For these accomplishments, Dr. Crivello was the recipient of the Rheta Foster Award given at the 2009 "Evening with Your Favorite Authors" event hosted by Alice Hoffman, as well as an Exceptional Woman Award in 2004, granted annually by Boston's Magic 106.7 radio station.
She also developed an increasing interest in mind-body connections and holistic care, bringing her passion for continual learning and personal growth to enrich the lives of everyone around her. Dr. Crivello was an exceptional baker whose homemade biscotti are legendary. In her free time, she enjoyed time with family and friends, charitable endeavors, playing board games, reading, and watching movies.
Dr. Crivello is survived by her daughter a second year medical student at Yale, and her son, a senior at Marquette University. Other loving survivors include her two brothers, uncle and aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
