Actor. A boxer in his youth, he adopted the name "Canada Lee" for the championship. He became an actor with the Harlem YMCA and won critical success in plays like "Othello," "Macbeth," and "Body and Soul." In 1939 he went to Hollywood and appeared in "Lifeboat" (1944) and "Body and Soul" (1947). He was a member of left-wing groups that were blacklisted during the 1950s. He died of a heart attack, a few days before another blacklisted actor, John Garfield, his co-star in "Body and Soul." His real name was Lionel Canegata.
