CONNEAUT — Dorothy M. Arcaro, age 85, of Conneaut, died peacefully with her daughter at her side on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at University Hospital Bedford Heights, after a 5 year battle with cancer.

Dorothy was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Conneaut, the daughter of Manuel and Mary (Rego) Rapose.

She was a 1943 graduate of Rowe High School. During World War II, Dorothy worked at the Ration Board, passing out various needed items. She married her husband, Michael Arcaro in 1946 and was a homemaker and housewife.

Dorothy was a member of St. Mary / St. Frances Cabrini Parish and former member the Altar Rosary Society.

She enjoyed traveling to California, Mexico and Portugal. She was able to travel to the Azores and visit the house where her Portuguese relatives were born. Dorothy enjoyed canning, gardening, puzzles and was an avid crocheter, always making afghans and giving them away.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael Arcaro in 1991; two brothers, Raymond Rapose and Anthony Rapose; and two sisters, Betty Jean Rapose and Genevieve Dagget.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Marianne and Randy Uveges of Solon and Nancy Egelton of Ashtabula; two sons, Joseph Arcaro and Michael and Debbie Arcaro of Bay Village; five grandchildren, Jake and Evan Uveges, Tysa Egelton, Sara Zeimnik and Michael Arcaro; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25th, at RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m., Friday, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut.

Memorial contributions may be made to Conneaut Human Resource Center, a place that was very dear to both Dorothy and her late husband, Michael. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
