Dr. Harvey J. Post, 96 of Rushford died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Harvey was born May 3, 1914 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota to Harry and Jean Netta (Seter) Post. He was raised in Parkers Prairie and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School and attended Moody Bible Institute, Gustavus Adolphus, and Saint Olaf College. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1942 as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Harvey married Janet G. Caldbeck on June 22, 1941 in Hayfield, Minnesota. Upon graduating from dental school he served in the 8th Army of the United States Army Air Force Dental Corps, 96th Bombardment Group in Snetterton Heath, England, during World War II reaching the rank of Major. Following his years in the service (1942-1946) Harvey and Janet moved to Rochester. In 1947 they moved to Rushford where he established a dental practice retiring in 1984.
He served as a Sunday school teacher for 28 years as a member of the Rushford Presbyterian Church and the Rushford Lutheran Church. Harvey loved to sing; including at numerous weddings and funerals, singing with the Barbershop Quartet 'Note Benders', Winona Barbershop Chorus, North Prairie Men's Group, church choirs, as well as providing singing ministry programs at area churches and nursing homes.
Harvey enjoyed family gatherings, watching and listening to birds, storytelling, Bible study, gardening, growing tulips, and oyster stew. He was a member of the Rushford Veterans of Foreign War and American Legion Posts. He volunteered as a Civil Defense Spotter, as a projectionist at the Rushford theatre and with the Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his five children; Carol Jean O'Brien of Apoka, FL, Nancy Peter of Minneapolis, Susan (Dick) Rollefson of Cloquet, John (Scottie) Post of Vale, NC and Peter (Connie) Post of Rochester, one sister LoVera Alsager of Gaithersburg, MD, nine grandchildren; Mark, Todd, Sean, Christy, Janet, Ruth, Jason, Nicole and Laura and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Janet, his parents, and infant sister Vera Post.

Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday, February 28 at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Reverend Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rushford. Friends may call from 3-6PM Sunday February 27 at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service of Rushford and one hour before services at the church on Monday. The Rushford American Legion Honor Detail will provide military graveside honors.
