Frances Charlotte Ailes, 86, of Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, in her home.

She was born on Oct. 27, 1924, in Dayton, Ky., the daughter of the late Herman and Alma (Freitsch) Imhoff. On March 3, 1946, she married Wayne Baker Ailes. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2008 after 62 years of marriage.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Maureen (Joe) Sargeant, Lois (Christopher) Miller, and Gina (James) Schmitt; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother and sister, Charles Imhoff and Alma Hill.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters, Edward Imhoff, Laura Ripley, Ruth Allen, Ralph Imhoff, Joe Imhoff, Walter Imhoff, and William Imhoff.

Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing, garden club, tutoring Japanese students, and playing games with her grandchildren. She was active in the United Methodist Church, and in the Order of the Eastern Star Stokes Chapter 543. Frances adored children and was a teacher in Sidney for 28 years. During the end of her life, she received loving support from family, caregivers, and Wilson Hospice.

A gathering of family and friends was held on Feb. 18, 2011, to celebrate her life.
